The Heart of Annie

A classic love story of two people, who, as they grow to love each other, begin to shed their disenchantment and cynicism, and find in themselves individuals worthy of a happy ending.  The Heart of Annie is a story with which many people in this day and age can identify. The complexities of careers, jaded attitudes toward love and the importance of family all come together in a beautifully written novel that has the reader both cheering for love while scolding their best friend for their stupid relationship mistakes.

Two endearing protagonists who are obviously meant for each other, fall in love…the novel is heartfelt and engaging thanks to Foote’s cleareyed prose and the obvious affection she has for her characters…a winning story due to the likability of the couple at its core…an overall satisfying read…Sweet, earnest women’s fiction with appealing characters.

The Heart of Annie captured me. J. S. Foote very successfully entwined a number of stories into a compelling yarn about family, about loss, about deep friendship, about love and the fear of love. A really beautiful read!

These characters do more than fall in love, as they fall into maturity and show me their missteps and successes in traversing their life paths as the story unfolds...
